Calling all attention seeking kids in Brooklyn: finally your chance to shine has arrived!
In an adorable piece of local Brooklyn news, TheatreSports in Park Slope has dedicated one afternoon a month to the mini comics of Brooklyn. Once a month, these little comics in the making can take the South Slope stage and wow audiences with their improve skills. This is the borough’s only children’s improv show yet!
Co-founder of the Freestyle Repertory Theatre, Laura Livingston says this: “Talent exists in small kids; some kids are artists. Adults are more concerned than children about how they’re looking on stage. If I were to ask an audience of elementary school kids to name an animal, they might say mouse, dog, or even a bacteria; whereas an adult audience will almost always say aardvark or platypus. A kid will not worry about if it is creative.”
The improv show welcomes children as young as four years of age and gives them the chance to compete in two person teams, while aided by the theater company’s own performers. The adult performers lead the skits while the kids improvise and act them out. There is a face off and a winner at every gathering.
