A new 50 minute film is taking Brooklyn-ites back to their beer brewing roots. “Brewed In Brooklyn” is filmmaker John Weber’s new documentary on the history of beer in Brooklyn, New York.

Says Weber, “At one time (Brooklyn) was the beer capitol of the United States, if not the world. It went from having roughly 50 breweries at the turn of the century to zero in 1977. It just seemed like such a great story to tell.”

Weber’s idea for the film started taking root after taking a historical tour of Brooklyn’s old beer spots. While walking through these historical landmarks, and hearing the history behind each, Weber realized that he must not be the only Brooklyn-ite who would find this fascinating. He then turned his attention to creating a film that was equally historical and intriguing. Beer aficionados will relish the chance to learn what the borough once had to offer, and what happened to bring it to the point it’s at today.

Weber and his two assistants spent two years working nights and weekends, tirelessly interviewing beer historians, brewers and booze connoisseurs. They received no financial backing and are financing the film with their own money. This truly was a labor of love for these three. And an exciting piece of Brooklyn news for all of us!

While not yet completed, they hope it will be available for mass viewing within a matter of months. Be on the lookout!
