In a truly upsetting piece of Brooklyn news, a four alarm fire tore through a building on the Pratt Institute campus. The fire started inside the Main Building of Pratt just before 2:30am on Friday morning. Heavy flames engulfed the sixth floor and tore through the roof. The blaze could be seen for nearly a mile.
Thankfully, there were no students or faculty inside the building at the time. Nor were any firefighters reported injured. The building, however, did not fare so well. In addition to the sixth floor and the roof; fire, smoke and water caused serious damage to the lower floors. Firefighters claim that the actual roof is partially collapsed.
Due to the fact that there was a large amount of fire upon the arrival of the fire department, fire marshals are investigating and, currently, the fire has been deemed suspicious. The fact that the building was locked and empty just adds to the suspicion surrounding the blaze. The case is currently under investigation. More information will be presented in the next couple days.
Students took to twitter to chronicle items lost in the fire and lament the sad news. Hopefully, the truth will come to light and this Brooklyn institution can get on the road of rebuilding.
